Volunteers Are Key to Taste of the World

DSCN6226On October 1, 2015, Taste of the World will again take participants on a food adventure in east Charlotte. Participants will gather at VanLandingham Estate before taking guided bus tours to three restaurants where sampling plates await. Buses will bring guests back to VanLandingham for entertainment, dessert and coffee.

Volunteers are key to the ongoing success of Taste of the World. In appreciation of their service last year and to encourage new volunteers, a Volunteer Reception was recently held on June 28, 2015 at the VanLandingham Estate.

Five Taste of the World participating restaurants provided delicious samples to thank the volunteers from last year for their hard work and to encourage them to sign up for 2015. The Charlotte Museum of History provided the boards about each restaurant to decorate the tables.

Featured Restaurants:

Fu Lin is an Indian/Chinese fusion restaurant. Francis Lin grew up in both countries and his menu celebrates the best of both cuisines.

Letty’s represented Southern USA with lovely chicken salad sandwiches, all natural ingredients. Letty has lived in Charlotte since 1985 and her menu covers the best of southern fare.

DSCN6227Euro Grille and Cafe shows us Eastern European food at its best. Bosnia and Herzegovina are highlighted in the sausages, Germany in the schnitzel, and even the flatbread is made in house.

Dino included meat and vegetable pies for everyone to taste and when asked what he would like to say to the gathering, he said, “Tell them to enjoy everything!”

La Shish Kabob gave us Middle Eastern food from Jerusalem, Palestine, Jordan and so on. A great mixture of tastes and extremely fresh and healthy.

Motherland Cuisine is Nigerian, and Dola opened her kitchen on Sunday especially to make us the delicious treats like fried plantain, and African donuts called Puff Puffs.

Attendees enjoyed trying out all the yummy food. Charlotte EAST board member, Louise, talked to everyone about the various positions open to volunteers and about how well the event went in 2014. People introduced themselves to the room and there were quite a few new volunteers!

Volunteers are needed and we’d love your help! Let us hear from you if you’d like to be a volunteer.
