At a recent meeting, the Charlotte EAST board learned more about leveraging social media in their programmatic and advocacy efforts. The board used this Beginner’s Guide to Social Media to facilitate the learning. If you’re new to social media, it’s a comprehensive resource! I can’t locate the original source, but will link to it if I locate it.

As many of you may know, to support Aldersgate’s ongoing commitment to improve the health of current and future for boomers and elders in the community we serve, we are conducting an Elder Community Engagement and Needs Assessment, looking specifically at the needs of boomers and elders on the eastside. The project is called the Shamrock Gateway Project.
Aldersgate has retained Dr. Lyndall Hare to apply her expertise in the field of gerontology to this process. She will be facilitating the community member/neighborhood resident focus groups at Aldersgate. Aldersgate has also contracted with Holleran, an independent research and consulting firm, to conduct research and prepare reporting.
We would like to invite you to participate in one of 3 Focus Groups (10 to 12 participants in each focus group) to be held on Monday June 22 at 10am – 11:30am, and 6pm – 7:30pm, and another on Tuesday June 23 from noon to 1:30pm. Your expertise and candid input will be valuable to better understanding the issues and community needs related to our boomer and elder neighbors.
Focus Groups will be held on Aldersgate’s campus at 3800 Shamrock Drive and will last about 90 minutes. You will be listed as a participant in the Focus Group, but your feedback will be confidential and anonymous.
Please call or e-mail Amanda Finnen (704-532-7099; email@example.com) to register for one of these 3 Focus Groups. We appreciate your willingness to share your views about this important topic and help Aldersgate better meet the needs of our neighbors. Should you be unable to participate in this process, please spread the word to others you think may be interested in participating.

Church members, friends, and neighbors enjoyed all of the free activities including a colorful bounce house, pony rides, face painting, learning about animals, games, and fitness activities including free blood pressure checks.
Live music, yummy hot dogs and nachos, snow cones, and door prizes added to the fun!
Throughout the day hundreds of neighbors young and old, speaking many different languages and representing many countries were all having fun together. Be sure to mark your calendar for the annual event!
Many thanks to Reverend Susan Webster and her team of volunteers for an excellent event.
Neighbors in East Charlotte’s Windsor Park neighborhood gathered on Memorial Day for a potluck picnic. Several neighbors recently met for the first time through the Windsor Park Facebook page and decided to have an impromptu celebration. Neighbors worked together to make the gathering a success contributing food and fixings for the event.
Approximately thirty neighbors enjoyed meeting with each other and taking in the beautiful weather. Children enjoyed games and bubbles while neighbors got to spend time getting to know one another.
The group was grateful to the dedicated volunteers that coordinated the event as well as the Aldersgate Community for allowing the group to meet at their property on Somerdale Lane. The group looks forward to future events and opportunities to connect.
