The Charlotte Observer reports that the building at 2401 Sardis Road North will be renovated into office space with the potential to house a call center. This building has been vacant for a the past few years and it is good to see it being renovated. Charlotte Five just highlighted some cool aspects of this area of east Charlotte just on the border with Matthews. Additional workers in this area will benefit the nearby retail establishments and restaurants.
This is good news for an area of town that may see changes to employment. Family Dollar’s headquarters is just around the corner from this location. Now that Dollar Tree has closed on their purchase of Family Dollar it is likely that some job consolidations will occur as they blend the two companies. Dollar Tree just announced that they’re building a new distribution facility in upstate South Carolina. I would not be surprised if they decide to move the distribution center away from Matthews location once the new SC facility is operational.
Having worked in this area of town for about four years, this spot is a little underrated. It’s a quick drive to SouthPark and commuters from Union County have easy access as well as residents of Mint Hill and Matthews. It’s an easy reverse commute if you live closer into the center city in east Charlotte neighborhoods like Windsor Park, Merry Oaks, Plaza Midwood, Oakhurst, or Elizabeth.
