Since Jose Rodriquez took over this restaurant next to Compare Foods, it has been transformed into an extremely popular place for locals and others seeking authentic Dominican food and a welcoming atmosphere. Jose loves to tell guests about his dishes and once they taste them, they come back for more!

Entering El Bohio, you feel as if you were in the Dominican Republic! The Dominican Republic’s Little League Baseball Team is playing on their big screen television, with local followers cheering nearby. Merengue music is playing in the background. The decor of the restaurant is beautiful and interesting, featuring scenes from the Dominican Republic including one of the home where Jose grew up.

El Bohio is a buffet-style restaurant where Jose, with a smile on his face, serves all who come scrumptious food made from traditional Dominican recipes. Among the most popular dishes are “Arroz con Habichuelas” and “Rabo Encendido.” Rabo is an oxtail stew cooked for hours in a tasty tomato sauce. Jose grew up eating this dish at home and later learned how to cook it for others. “Moro con Gandul” is a rice and black bean dish also very popular in the Dominican Republic. Jose uses a secret seasoning to cook it, but don’t bother to ask what is in it because he won’t tell! He’ll just ask you try it.

Jose also offers the famous “Mofongo” or fried green plantains with fried pork meat, shrimp or chicken covered in a garlic sauce. And if you’re looking for a side dish, try the “Yaroa”, plantains or potatoes cooked with cheese, ketchup or mayo. If you have a sweet tooth and wish to try something different, ask for “Morisonando” or “Morir Sonando”, a drink made of milk and orange. Unlike the “batidos” in Latin America, Jose makes them without using a blender.
